The roll pin on the recoil rod is 1/16" and can be a pain to remove and replace. All the pin does is hold the bolt assembly together to make it easier to install and remove from the upper. It's not common to have to R&R the recoil rod, but if you ever accidently drop your bolt, you're likely to end up with the recoil rod being bent (and/or the ejector rod) and needing replacement. It's also very easy to bend the recoil rod just by taking out and/or replacing the roll pin.
Here's a simple but effective tip from UziTalk's "CoffeeFreak", who is also the creator of the CF-W SlowFire Bolt.

Recoil Rod Pin Paperclip Modification |
Step 1 |
Buy jumbo paperclips from Walmart or Staples or wherever for a buck.
| |
Step 2
Using a Dremmel cutting wheel, cut a slot parallel to the pin hole and cold blue it.
Step 3
Stick the paperclip in the pin hole
and using a pair of needle nose pliers, bend it tightly around and into the slot you cut. Clip it off so it doesn't extend past the rod. |
Step 4
Bend the paperclip over the other fold and clip it so that it doesn't extend past the rod.
You're DONE!
Enjoy your mod. It will hold as well as
the pin does. Keep a spare rod with a slot cut and paperclip in your range bag. It only
takes a minute to change with a pair of needle nose pliers if you drop your bolt and bend the rod. |
